Some of My Favorite Things

Some of My Favorite Things

Believe it or not I don’t eat at Corbin’s Grille for every meal and I get asked a lot about what it is that I like to eat when I go out, so I thought I’d list off a few of my absolute favorite things to eat.  Everything from guilty pleasures to splurges!  Here they are in no particular order.

Favorite Fast Food

Tonyburgers - You HAVE to love eating local, especially when it’s this good!  I would love to live in a society where McDonald’s is forced out of business because everyone chose to pay a bit more, and drive a little bit further to get better quality, better tasting food… if you’d like to join the revolution then Tonyburgers is a great place to start… brand new and delicious!

Favorite Greek Food

Greek Broiler and Grill - Recently changed their name from University Broiler, in my mind the trick to a great Gyro is the sauce and these guys do it right, the sauce is light and creamy with a fresh cucumber taste which tells me that it’s made fresh, at least I think it is.  Definitely a favorite regular spot for me.

Hill Field Road in Layton (Just barely north of Antelope Drive Next to Maverik)  801-775-8866

Favorite Local Italian

Gabor Brothers – The giant portions make me feel like I’m back in Italy where eating is an event, not a quick bite.  I really like the shrimp scampi and fettuccine Alfredo.  Bruschetta is a must and their pizzas are fantastic, though they take awhile to cook so best to call ahead to order those.  Currently they are temporarily closed due to a kitchen fire, but I’m excited for them to open up soon!

Favorite BBQ

Holy Smoke BBQ – Seriously good.  I absolutely love the Pulled Pork Sandwich and the Tri-Tip Sandwich (available on Thursdays).  I’ve never been there and NOT seen owner Jeff Ray enthusiastically greeting his guests and talking about BBQ.  Tony Roma’s closed down about a year ago and I have to think that this place had something to do with it.  You won’t catch me dead at Famous Dave’s as long as places like Holy Smoke are around!  Nothing personal Dave.

Favorite Items from My Neighbors

Roosters Brewing Co and Restaurant – Since well before I even knew who Kym was (Kym and Pete are the owners of Roosters) I loved the simplicity of Kym’s Capellini and would order it every time I went to Ogden.  It’s still a favorite of mine, but if they’re running their Shrimp Curry special then I immediately abandon Kym’s namesake for the delicious curry!  Sorry Kym.  Also try the Pepperjack Shrimp as an appetizer, you’ll be glad you did.

MacCool’s Public House - Nothing beats the Shepard’s Pie at MacCool’s for comfort food.  Nothing.  I love it and I especially love that I can’t seem to finish it in one sitting so I always get to enjoy it again later that night for a late-night comfort food snack.  For an appetizer you absolutely can’t beat their lamb ribs drizzled with their home-made bleu cheese.  So good!

Rovali’s - Kind of a distant neighbor (located by Walmart on SR93) but the fried Ravioli is definitely worth the trip.

5 Favorite Items from Corbin’s Grille

Parent’s will say they don’t have a favorite child, they just love them all the same.  And though I definitely love everything on our menu there are definitely some stand-out favorites!

Seafood Martini – There’s a reason Bon Appetit Magazine published the recipe for this signature appetizer and that reason is the taste is almost life-changing.  Zesty gazpacho sauce poured over shrimp, crab, lobster, avocado and diced tomatoes.  Last week an out of town guest summoned me to his table to tell me this about the Seafood Martini, “This is the kind of dish that I would drive a few hours out of my way just to have, it’s incredible.”  Sir, I couldn’t agree more.

Tuscan Chicken Sandwich – This sandwich is only available at lunch but it is one of my favorite sandwiches of all time, if you haven’t tried it do yourself a favor… and at $8.95 the price includes steak fries or fruit.  Served 6 days a week until 4PM.

Filet Mignon Oscar Style - Wood Grilled Filet, Asparagus, Bearnaise Sauce and Crab.  Need I say more?  This is definitely on the list of splurges but sometimes you just deserve it.

Seafood Risotto – Creamy risotto cooked in a saffron broth with shrimp, crab, lobster and asparagus.  This is the kind of meal they serve in Heaven.

Molten Chocolate Cake – Made from scratch and baked to order, the main ingredient is semi-sweet Ghirardelli chocolate.  That’s right, no powders, no cake mixes no crazy flavorings.  Just chocolate, butter, and sugar combined and baked to perfection served with a dollop of home-made whipped cream, fresh strawberry and a scoop of vanilla ice cream… I almost didn’t put this on the list because it’s such an obvious choice but sometimes even the superstars need a bit of publicity.
